🧾 Volunteer Requirements & Qualifications
Neighbor to Neighbor’s volunteer program is built on trust, safety, and respect — both for those we serve and those who serve alongside us. To ensure a safe and rewarding experience for everyone, volunteers must meet the following criteria.
🚘 Volunteer Driver Requirements
- Attend a volunteer orientation
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Have three (3) or fewer points on your driver’s license
- Maintain valid automobile insurance
- Be interested in serving seniors and adults with disabilities
- Be capable of maintaining confidentiality
- Pass criminal background and driver record checks
Note: Background checks completed within the past year through a United States background agency may be shared with Neighbor to Neighbor in place of a new screening, pending staff review and approval.
Background Check Disqualifiers
Any person found guilty of the following will be disqualified and prohibited from volunteering:
- Sex offenses
- Felony violence
Additionally, volunteers will be temporarily prohibited for the time periods below:
- Felony offenses (non-violent, non-sex-related) within the past 10 years
- Misdemeanor violence offenses within the past 7 years
- Misdemeanor drug or alcohol offenses within the past 5 years, or multiple such offenses within 10 years
- Any misdemeanor within 5 years that may pose a danger to clients or relates to volunteer duties
Anyone with pending charges for disqualifying offenses cannot volunteer until the case is officially resolved and meets N2N’s acceptance policy.
Volunteers serve at the pleasure of Neighbor to Neighbor and may be dismissed from their duties at any time, with or without cause.
📞 Volunteer Client Coordinator Requirements
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be comfortable handling phone reservations and record-keeping
- Have basic computer skills and familiarity with databases
- Have a 4-hour block of time, weekly or twice monthly, to volunteer.
Client Coordinators are essential behind-the-scenes volunteers who help schedule rides, communicate with drivers, and ensure smooth service delivery.
